Tanzania - Origine
Origin, our star route
In this itinerary we propose a trip away from the most frequented roads to discover the wonders of Tanzania, those that are forgotten by most visitors who rush to see only the most famous parks.
A 4x4 route is a circular route in which we will enjoy incredible landscapes, at the same time we will give a cultural dimension to the trip knowing the Maasai culture. In addition, it is an itinerary designed to take stock of the kilometers of car, outdoor activities and hours of rest.
What makes it different? We have made sure to design a route that combines very remote and infrequent areas such as Lake Natron, as well as the most famous parks on the continent such as Serengeti and Ngorongoro.

Your detailed safari itinerary
Arrival in Tanzania
Pickup at Kilimanjaro Airport by a Watatu Travel representative (between 7 and 9 AM) and transfer to your accommodation (approx. 1h 30m). At midday, we'll have lunch in a local community where the mamas will cook traditional food for us, such as pilau rice, various types of soup, fresh vegetables, assorted fruits, and also barbecued meat. This way, we'll have direct contact with the local people and get to know the rest of the group.

En route to Lake Natron
We'll begin our adventure by leaving Arusha city behind and heading towards one of the most memorable places for us: Lake Natron (approx. 6-7 hours). To get there, we'll traverse volcanic landscapes, traditional villages, and areas with wild animals such as giraffes, wildebeest, and antelopes. As we progress, the landscape will become wilder, until we see Ol Doinyo Lengai, the sacred mountain of the Maasai, on the horizon. Once we arrive, we'll drop off our luggage at the lodge, and our Maasai guide will take us to the 'secret rock'. There, in front of the lake and surrounded by animals, we'll experience a spectacular sunset.

Lake Natron activities: Maasai culture
With our Maasai guide, we will explore the area to see Africa's largest flamingo colony. Amidst Maasai stories from centuries past, we'll discover the area's waterfalls and its resident wildlife: giraffes, wildebeest, and zebras are common sightings. In the afternoon, we'll participate in the 'Jewels of Maasai Land' activity: a workshop led by Maasai women where we'll learn their ancestral jewelry-making techniques. With their help, we'll create our own piece of jewelry — a lifelong souvenir. Afterwards, we'll return to the lodge to relax, enjoy a swim in the pool, and once again marvel at another unforgettable sunset.

En route to the Serengeti via Klein's Gate and afternoon safari
This will be an unforgettable day. Early in the morning, we will leave Lake Natron behind and head towards Serengeti National Park (5h). After crossing the remote lands of Loliondo, we will arrive at Klein's Gate and finally enter the park for our first safari. From north to south, we will admire the beauty of the African savanna and look for our first big cats. In the evening, we will arrive at our lodge, located in the heart of the Serengeti, have dinner, and gather around the fire to listen to the sounds of the savanna. It's not uncommon to hear elephants, lions, and other animals. A unique nocturnal spectacle not to be missed.

Full day safari in the Serengeti
Today we will dedicate the whole day to the “Best Safari in the World”. During the day, we will discover the great variety of birds, reptiles and mammals that inhabit the park: nyus, zebras and different species of antelope. With the help of our guides, we will learn how to track the most famous cats on the planet: lions, cheetahs and leopards. An incredible day that we will divide into two outings: one from 6 to 12 in the morning and another from 4 to 6 in the afternoon, the times when the animals are most active. Between both departures, we will rest and dine at the lodge.

Ngorongoro Crater Safari
Early in the morning, we will start a safari en route to the south of the Serengeti. Along the way we will cross stunning landscapes and we will have more opportunities to observe the fauna in its natural habitat. At noon (12:00-13:00 h), we will descend to 600 meters deep inside the Ngorongoro Crater, a unique ecosystem, considered one of the best wildlife reserves in the world. Although it seems impossible, this is where you can see the big 5. Afterwards, we will leave the Conservation Area and spend the night in our lodge, surrounded by a spectacular environment.

Banana plantations in Mto Wa Mbu and safari in Tarangire
After a few very intense days, today we will start the day in a calmer way. We will have a leisurely breakfast in our lodge and at noon we will carry out the activity “Land of farmers”. At Mto Wa Mbu we will have the opportunity to get to know the banana plantations of the area and have a local lunch. We will taste the gastronomy of the region and understand the importance of this crop for the peasants and for the local economy. In the afternoon, we will continue to the last stop of this exciting trip: the Tarangire National Park. We will do an afternoon safari, among baobabs and elephants, and we will head to our lodge located in the heart of the park.

Safari in Tarangire and transfer to the airport
Now yes, Origin comes to an end. A journey that, surely, like us, will mark you forever. Before leaving, we will do one last safari, taking advantage of the fact that we are in the heart of the park. A last farewell to the African savannah, which can give us everything: from lion families to giraffes or elephants. Once we have left the park, we will head towards Kilimanjaro International Airport.
