We always say that in Watatu We are a big family. Therefore, from time to time, we will publish on our blog a interviewing from a member of team so that you can face us and know a little more. Let's go!
Meet... The Eagle
Who is Águeda?

A “native of Barcelona” who undertook the trip to Tanzania with the support of her family and a project that gave her the space to grow.
If you could define yourself with 3 adjectives... what would they be?
Passionate, cheerful, detail-oriented.
Where are you from?
I am a Pixapins from Barcelona.
What did you study?
I was already on my way, I studied the 4-year university degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management.
What is the most spontaneous thing you have done in your life?

Being in Zambia, I bought today for tomorrow (literally) a ticketLusaka to Livingstone to go see the waterfalls Mosi-oa-Tunya (Victoria Waterfalls) and go take a picture of me at the exact same place where my aunt (a large inspiration for me) the photo was taken more than 30 years ago in front of the waterfalls.
What do you enjoy doing most in your free time?
My favorite activities are a bit polarized, I enjoy the yoga for my inner balance and kickboxing to remove stress.
What song or soundtrack makes you feel instantly happy?
I'm very happy with anything I can points, any Afrobeat theme.
What is your favorite food that always makes you feel good?
Thepotato omelettes from my father or the cakechocolate milfoilsthat my mother cooks.
How did you get started in the world of safaris? Any interesting stories behind this?
In the third year of the university we had the subject of doing some practises focused on the specialty we wanted to dedicate ourselves to, in my case travel agencies, but the offers that were on campus seemed boring to me.
But then, I saw some internships in Arusha(Tanzania) in aDestination Management Company (DMC) for three months, and I went headlong.

Turns out there, that was the year 2018 I agreed with William that I think at the time was working on renewable energy in Tanzania. After 3 years, we met again and since then the rest is history at Watatu Travel.
What is Watatu Travel for you?
Watatu Travel for me is a lifestyle.
It is a real pride to have been present since the beginning when we were with Guillem side by side and counted the team with one hand... and to see that now we have offices in Barcelona and even in Arusha. And a dream come true, really.

Watatu feels like a son I've watched grow up.Watatu has been and is also a platform that has allowed me to develop not only professionally but personally and achieve goals with which the Eagle of 10 years ago did not even imagine that I could reach.
Watatu Travel is made up of a great team, but... What is your specific role?

PortoWatatu office in Tanzania, although on my cup of coffee it says “Chief Happiness Officer”, I manage - with the essential support of my team - everything that concerns the operations in Tanzania, that is, everything that happens and moves to its destination; from theattention to the travelerup to theorganization of cars and guides.
What would you say to those who hesitate to go on a safari?
That if you have the chance to do it, even if it is once in your life,do it.
And unexplained what you feel and what it transmits beauty of naturein their wild state: animals in freedom and the cycle of life, fauna and flora, landscapes... It feels like the last wild corner of the worldAnd you are lucky to be able to witness it.

Also on a safari there is not only the part of nature but alsothere is a very important human factor, and I firmly believe thatTravelling broadens your soul, to meet cultures and new people It opens your eyes and mind to your own beliefs and thoughts.
If you could choose one of all the routes offered by Watatu... Which one would you choose?
I am between two of them. my favorites from Tanzania: the Watatu Star Route with the Mara River Crossingand the extension to Gombe National Park. Two totally different journeys...
But, I have to choose, I opt for Gombe.

The truth that this park stole my heart, it is an indescribable feeling of excitement to witness the communities of chimpanzees interact - the same as Jane Goodallbegan studying in the 60s-, along with the mixture of jungle vegetation that melts to the shore of the Lake Tanganyica, stick your head to the shore and see Congo and Burundi in the distance, the truth that the remoteness of this small national park creeps within.
Do you have a favorite animal that you love to see on safaris? Why?
I have always said that the lioness is my spirit animal, so for me it is always special to see them.

Although I also have a special place for rhinoceros (the black rhino, the white one I have never seen), it is another animal that excites me a lot when I have the opportunity to see it, it is amixture of feelings of illusion and grief.
To know that as humans we have persecuted them to almost The Extinction, there is something about this that touches me a lot along with seeing the great work the Rangers and conservation organizations do for their protection.
