The complete safari experience

Experience the most complete trip we offer in Watatu. A 10-day safari in Tanzania where you can do two of the most exclusive and special activities in Africa: a walking safari in the Serengeti and a balloon safari in Tarangire.

We will explore the best national parks in the country: Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire. We will do it by air, by car and on foot so that you can capture the essence of the African savannah and see up close iconic species such as the lion, the leopard, the elephant, the giraffe or the buffalo...

In addition, we will participate in social and cultural projects, such as the artisan jewelry workshop with the Maasai mamas at Lake Natron or the local lunch at Kwa Tonga. In this way, we help generate a positive impact on the local community.

This transformative experience will connect you deeply with the nature and culture of Tanzania, leaving a memory of a lifetime.

Your detailed safari itinerary

Arriving in Tanzania

Lodge in Arusha
Local lunch and dinner

Pick up at Kilimanjaro Airport by a Watatu Travel representative (between 7 and 9 in the morning) and transfer to the accommodation (1h 30 approx). At noon, we will have lunch in a local community where moms will cook us traditional food such as pilau rice, various types of soup, fresh vegetables, assorted fruits and also grilled meat. In this way we have direct contact with the local people and thus we get to know the rest of the group.

En route to Lake Natron

Tented Camp in the area of Lake Natron
Breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner

We will start our adventure leaving behind the city of Arusha and heading to one of the places that has marked us the most: Lake Natron (6-7 h approx.). To get there we will cross volcanic landscapes, traditional villages and areas with wild fauna such as giraffes, nymphs and antelopes. As we advance, the landscape will become more untamed, until we see on the horizon the Ol Doinyo Lengai, the sacred mountain of the Maasai. Once we arrive, we will leave our bags at the lodge and our Maasai guide will take us to the “secret rock”. There, in front of the lake and surrounded by animals, we will experience a spectacular sunset.

Day of activities at Lake Natron: Maasai culture

Tented Camp in the area of Lake Natron
Breakfast, lunch and dinner

With our Maasai guide we will explore the area to see the largest colony of flamingos in Africa. Among mass stories from past centuries, we will discover the waterfalls of the area and the fauna that inhabits it: giraffes, lynxes and zebras are common suspects. In the afternoon, we will do the activity “Jewels of the Massai Land”: a workshop taught by Masai women where we will learn their ancestral jewelry techniques. With their help, we will create our own jewel — a memory for a lifetime. Afterwards, we will return to the lodge to relax, enjoy a swim in the pool and marvel again with another unforgettable sunset

En route to the Serengeti via Klein's Gate and afternoon safari

Tented Camp in the central Serengeti (Seronera)
Breakfast, picnic lunch, and dinner

This will be an unforgettable day. Early in the morning, we will leave Lake Natron behind and head towards Serengeti National Park (5h). After crossing the remote lands of Loliondo, we will arrive at Klein's Gate and finally enter the park for our first safari. From north to south, we will admire the beauty of the African savanna and look for our first big cats. In the evening, we will arrive at our lodge, located in the heart of the Serengeti, have dinner, and gather around the fire to listen to the sounds of the savanna. It's not uncommon to hear elephants, lions, and other animals. A unique nocturnal spectacle not to be missed.

Safari on foot in the morning and by car in the afternoon

Tented Camp in the center of the Serengeti (Seronera)
Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today we will live a unique experience: touring the Serengeti on foot. Very early in the morning, we will meet the team of rangers and local guides who will accompany us during the morning through the savannah. Walking, every sound, every trace and every shadow takes on a new meaning. By tracing and observing the environment carefully, we will learn to read the landscape as local peoples do. At the end, we will return to the accommodation for lunch and in the afternoon we will go on a safari with 4x4. An intense, intimate and very special day that will bring us even closer to the essence of Africa.

Full day safari in the Serengeti

Tented Camp in the center of the Serengeti (Seronera)
Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today we will dedicate the whole day to the “Best Safari in the World”. During the day, we will discover with 4x4 the great variety of birds, reptiles and mammals that inhabit the park: nyus, zebras and different species of antelope. With the help of our guides, we will learn how to track the most famous cats on the planet: lions, cheetahs and leopards. An incredible day that we will divide into two outings: one from 6 to 12 in the morning and another from 4 to 6 in the afternoon, the times when the animals are most active. Between both departures, we will rest and dine at the lodge.

Ngorongoro Crater Safari

Lodge in Karatu
Breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner

Early in the morning, we will start a safari en route to the south of the Serengeti. Along the way we will cross stunning landscapes and we will have more opportunities to observe the fauna in its natural habitat. At noon (12:00-13:00 h), we will descend to 600 meters deep inside the Ngorongoro Crater, a unique ecosystem, considered one of the best wildlife reserves in the world. Although it seems impossible, this is where you can see the big 5. Afterwards, we will leave the Conservation Area and spend the night in our lodge, surrounded by a spectacular environment.

Banana plantations in Mto Wa Mbu and afternoon safari in Tarangire

Lodge in Tarangire
Breakfast, lunch and dinner

After a few very intense days, today we will start the day in a calmer way. We will have a leisurely breakfast in our lodge and at noon we will carry out the activity “Land of farmers”. At Mto Wa Mbu we will have the opportunity to get to know the banana plantations of the area and have a local lunch. We will taste the gastronomy of the region and understand the importance of this crop for the peasants and for the local economy. In the afternoon, we will continue to the last stop of this exciting trip: the Tarangire National Park. We will do an afternoon safari, among baobabs and elephants, and we will head to our lodge located in the heart of the park.

Balloon Safari in Tarangire and Airport Transfer

No accommodation
Breakfast and picnic lunch

Now yes... the special edition is coming to an end. But we still have to live the final culmination, the most magical activity of the entire route: “Africa from the sky”. At dawn, before the sun comes up, we will get up at 5 in the morning to start a very different safari: a balloon flight over the savannah. From the silence suspended in the air, you will see how the first rays dye the landscape golden and red, while the herds of animals slowly move under your feet. Honestly, we can't think of a better ending to say goodbye to Africa. Once we have finished the balloon safari, we will have breakfast in the middle of the savannah and finally head to Kilimanjaro Airport

It has a wide variety of ecosystems, from endless plains to hills and scattered forests, which makes it a very diverse habitat to host a lot of wildlife. It is famous for being the scene of the great annual migration, where millions of nyus and zebras roam the Serengeti in search of fresh pastures and rains.
